Founded in 1853 in downtown St Louis, Saint Louis Washington University is a private co-educational research university. With an endowment of about 5 billion US dollars it is one of the largest funded institutions in the country. The under graduate program of the university is ranked 12 th in the nation, the medical school is tied fourth in research and architecture is ranked sixth.

School of Arts and Science consists of three divisions namely the College of Arts and Science, The Graduate School and The University College
The College of Arts and Science enrolls about 3,000 undergraduates in 40 academic departments. The school comprises of Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences and Mathematics departments.
The Graduate School serves over 1,500 students pursuing Masters and Ph.D. degrees.
