The city of South Bend is part of the St. Joseph County. South Bend is also part of the famous “Michiana” which comprises of six counties of Indiana and two Michigan counties. Along with Mishawaka, South Bend forms one of the most famous metropolitan areas and the area is known for the industrial belt. South Bend is also the home of “The Fighting Irish”, the most reputed football team of the University of Notre Dame.

The discovery of the city of South Bend was possible because of the two European explorers Robert Cavalier and Monsieur de La Salle. Some of the other personalities who have significantly influenced the history of the place are Henry and Clement Studebaker and Father Edward Sorin who was responsible for the founding of University of Notre Dame. The Studebaker brothers have contributed a lot to the agricultural and economical development of the place. South Bend boasts of a multi-ethnic culture and the population comprises of White Non-Hispanics, Blacks, Hispanics, American Indians and other races.

Some of the major industries which have successfully influenced the economy of South Bend are education, health and trade and commerce related to wholesale and retail businesses. The Division of Economic Development is known to provide resources for the existing ventures and supplies money for new projects. South Bend is also known as one of the Foreign Trade Zone and the city is well-connected so that all the business ventures can be managed smoothly.

With new ventures like real estate developments, the city is experiencing growth in the economic sector.

The avid football lover will have the time of his life in University of Notre Dame where they get to have the glimpse of the rich heritage of the football history in the College Football Hall of Fame. The other places of interest in South Bend are South Bend Symphony, the Broadway theatre League, Morris Performing Arts Center. One can take a look at all the priceless collections of art in Snite Museum of Art and take a stroll down the timeline in The Northern Indiana Center of History. The Potawatomi Zoo is rich in flora and fauna and the Hannah Lindahl Children's Museum is the best place to teach the children the wonderful facts of history.
