Shreveport LA is the third largest city in Louisiana State with an area of 305.1 sq.km.
It is located on the border of Louisiana and Texas and is a Midwestern Gambler's Paradise. It is also one of the busiest cultural and commercial centers in the US.


Early History about Shreveport LA
Shreveport City was originally a Caddo Indian Settlement. The land was sold to the the Shreve Town Company, who founded Shreveport in 1836, to develop a holding at meeting points of the newly navigable Red River and the Texas Trail. The city was named after Captain Henry Miller Shreve of the Army Corps of Engineers, who cleared the huge amount of debris that had clogged the river bed. The sister city of Bossier was set up in 1884. The port of Shreveport-Bossier is now being revived as a shipping center.

According to the US Census reports of 2000, Shreveport LA has a population of 200,145 and a population density of 749.2 persons per sq.km. The population has an African American majority with 50.80%, 46.66% of the population is White, 0.31% is Native American and 0.03% is Pacific Islander. The population is skewed in favor of women, with only 87.4 males for every 100 females. The average household income is US$ $30,526. 22.8% of the population is below the poverty line.
