Space Needle is one of the most attractive landmarks of Seattle, the Emerald City. The strategic location of Space Needle is in the popular region of Seattle Center along Broad Street. The campus of Seattle Center is home to many famous museums, restaurants, shopping plazas, galleries, fountains and amusement rides. The structure of Space Needle was built in 1962 to be displayed in the public exhibition of World's Fair. The initial name given to the Space Needle was “The Space Cage” and the restaurant housed on it was called “Eye of the Needle”. Weighing 9,550-ton and rising up to 600 ft, this construction can resist almost 200 mile per hour winds and earthquakes. The Needle like structure was constructed to withstand the wind velocity and control the center of gravity, which lies 5 feet above the ground. The Needle alone weighs 3,700 tons. Space Needle Corporation privately owns this foundation.
The architecture of Space Needle was designed by Edward E. Carlson. The highest point of Space Needle is at 605 feet and resembles the structure of an aircraft. Legacy Light is the bright illumination point atop the structure. The Observation Deck is at 520 feet and offers a lofty panoramic view of Seattle’s natural wonders including the Mt.
