Seattle Sounders is the Seattle based soccer team to have won the League Cup for four times in the years of 1995, 1996, 2005 and 2007. This professional soccer team was founded in 1994. An Orca whale is the official mascot of Seattle Sounders. This team derives its name from the North American Soccer League (NASL) team of Seattle Sounders. This NASL team had many credits in their honor from 1974 to 1983. But this team stopped playing after 1983.
The home ground of the newly found Seattle Sounders is Qwest Field since 2003. Earlier they played their games in the grounds of Memorial Stadium and Tacoma Dome. The other major trophy to have won by Seattle Sounders alongside the League Cup is the Cascadia Cup in 2006 and 2007. In this very event, the other teams to compete include the historic rivals of Seattle Sounders, Vancouver Whitecaps and Portland Timbers.

the team was coached by the English coach Alan Hinton. From the season of 1996, this team has been under the coaching of US coaches namely Brian Schmetzer, Bernie James, Neil Megson. The players of Seattle Sounders are mostly registered from US itself. But a few of the key players are brought from foreign nations like England, France, Jamaica, Mexico, New Zealand. The French midfielder Sebastien Le Toux played a pivotal role in making Seattle Sounders the League Cup champion by scoring the maximum number of goals for the team.
Since 2005, Seattle Sounders is supported by a huge number of fans, who call themselves 'Emerald City Supporters'. Earlier the team's fan club was named as 'The Pod'.
In a press conference the owner of Seattle Sounders, Adrian Hanauer confirmed that Seattle Sounders would form a new team to participate in the Major League Soccer in 2009.
