The political parties in Seattle are largely influenced by the state politics of Washington. The state law of Washington has differentiated the major and minor political parties in the state based on the total percentage of votes cast in their favor.

According to this law, a minimum of 5 percent of total votes should be secured by the nominee of the party for the US Senate or US President or a statewide official post to be registered as a major political party.
