The Northwest Folklife Festival is a phenomenal event that celebrates the folk, ethnic as well as traditional activities related to art, in Seattle, every year. The organizer of the festival is Northwest Folklife.
Established in 1972, Northwest Folklife is nonprofit and independent organization, which encourages the growth of the cultural heritage of communities in Pacific Northwest. It is supported by donations, sponsorships and grants. Northwest Folklife dedicates itself to the preservation of traditional arts and cultural wealth in the Northwest region. Not only does it present the annual Northwest Folklife Festival but various public and education programs as well.
The attractions of Northwest Folklife Festival are endless and fail to tire people. Artists from the region of Pacific Northwest and guests invited from various parts of the world, come together to give rise to an ethnic entertainment. In the festival there are dance and music performances, exhibits of folklore and visual arts, symposia, children's activities, music and dance workshops, food, crafts, imported goods, presentations on traditional arts and much more. Participating in the festival is of great importance and in this way one participant gets to learn about the culture of another.
The Northwest Folklife Festival is held during Memorial Day weekend and it is the biggest and the most active folk life celebrations in the entire continent of North America. In 2008 Northwest Folklife Festival is scheduled to be held between May 23 and 26, at Seattle Center.
