The Seattle Marathon is one of the most prestigious and biggest annual races of the entire West Coast participated by a huge number of people. The Seattle Marathon was initiated in 1970 by a small group of people of the University of Washington. The 1st annual running event of Settle Marathon was started by 38 runners. Among them 31 runners were able to complete the full 26.2 miles race. The Seattle Marathon Events gradually assumed a supreme position among the greatest events in Seattle. The Seattle Kids Marathon was introduced in 1999, for kids belonging to all age groups. In the first year, 357 kids took part and in 2007 the number of participants rose to 3,000.
The Seattle Marathon and the events related to it have grown steadily and impressively since their inception. In the 2006 Seattle Marathon more than 12,000 people participated in both the walking and running events. More than 40,000 people visited the UW Medical Center Seattle Marathon Expo of 2006, 2 days prior or the principal event.

A non-profit group known as the Seattle Marathon Association, guided by Board of Directors comprising 10 members, sponsors the event. This organization is committed to its aim of providing an exceptional running event in the region of Pacific Northwest. The UW Medical Center Patient and Family Housing Fund is one of the several charities that the Seattle Marathon benefits from.
The 2007 Seattle Marathon was held on November 25th and it started from 5th Avenue between Mercer and Harrison Streets. The events of Seattle Marathon were categorized as marathon run, marathon walk, half marathon run and half marathon walk. The walk participants are entitled to several amenities like a goody bag and ASICS technical fabric shirt. Those who finish the race get a finisher's certificate of completion, medal, individual care and much more.
Seattle Marathon is a very significant event that is ranked among the leading 20 marathons in the country of the USA, by Runners World Magazine.
