The identity of Kurt Cobain is best recognized as the lead vocal singer of the internationally acclaimed band – Nirvana. Often known as Kurt Donald Cobain, this talented singer redefined American music in the nineties through his multi-platinum grunge band. Cobain was born on February 20, in 1967. His hometown is Hoquaim, situated 140 kilometers south-west of Seattle. The atmosphere of his house was not much encouraging for his interests. His father was an auto mechanic and mother, a cocktail waitress by profession. Cobain soon settled to nearby town of Aberdeen. In future Cobain's childhood was much affected by the divorce of his parents. He lived a life of insecurity and loneliness, when he became drawn towards anti-socialism and drugs. At one stage of life, Cobain spend homeless days living under the shade of a bridge. It is said that this childhood trauma is often reflected in Nirvana's music especially in "Sliver".
Cobain was fond of painting and singing. He particularly listened to the Beatles and the Monkees. Later on he got addicted to bands like the Sex Pistols, Black Sabbath, Kiss and the Clash in 1979. Cobain bought his first guitar on his14th birthday. This was the start of his unique combinations of music styles. Cobain also played as a roadie for a Seattle group - the Melvins. The mood, melody and lyrical quality of the creations by Kurt Cobain were of outstanding taste.
Cobain formed Nirvana in 1986, after many experimental efforts. Nirvana had Cobain as their leader, Krist Novoselic as bassist and Dave Grohl as drummer and multi-instrumentalist. This was the initial composition of the band.
By 1988 Nirvana started to give great shows and distributed demo tapes all around the world. Nirvana recorded their first album Bleach for regional, independent Sub-Pop label in 1989.

Other than America, Nirvana also received a high recognition in Britain, after signing a contract with Geffen in 1991.
They were the first non-mainstream band to go for an international assignment. When Nirvana's first C.D. Bleach released with the crowd sweeping hit 'Nevermind', the stardom of this band seemed beyond any boundaries.
Later 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' became Nirvana's signature song. Cobain almost hooked his every listener to the unintelligible lyrics yet melodious presentation of the song. Cobain was overawed at the reception of his music. The reporters issued several journals, magazines and weekly articles on solely the performances of Kurt Cobain. This 24yr old was highly into heroine, which lead to several health hazards. "Come as You Are" and "Lithium" are popular creations of this band, which also made appearances on NBC's Saturday Night Live and MTV's Headbanger's Ball. In 1992, Cobain married Courtney Love in Hawaii, and together brought their daughter, Frances Bean. After a while, the group again came up with smashing hit, Incesticide. Utero was released in 1993 and remained on the top most rank of music charts. Kurt Cobain and Nirvana left behind their outstanding shows on MTV unplugged concert in Munich in 1994. Cobain committed suicide at a tragic intersection of his life on 5th April, 1994.
The death ceremony of Kurt Cobain was accompanied by around 5,000 people in Seattle for a candlelight tribute. His everlasting songs and lyrics have been touching millions of hearts over the decades. Even today, after the emergence of several rock bands in and around America, Nirvana and its founder Kurt Cobain is revered by every music lover internationally.
