Grunge music is a genre or style of rock music, which flourished in the period between the late 1980s and first half of 1990s in Seattle. Grunge music is a stylized blend of punk and heavy metal. When it emerged it was mainly confined to the US, however it spread to the rest of the world. Many fans of music identify grunge with Seattle's musical revival. Grunge in Seattle is the first form of rock music that emerged and spread across the city.
Origin of Grunge Music
The guitars used in this form of music were directly taken from metal music of the early 1970s, but the appeal of grunge music exceeded metal the original version. The ways of musical attack and lyrical ideas were borrowed from punk, especially the free patterns of American hardcore during early 1980s.

Famous Grunge Musicians
The first generation of grunge bands were Green River, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Mudhoney and Melvins. Their styles were heavier than that of the next generation. The second wave of the Grunge music form, commenced with Nirvana. Nirvana was considered to be more melodious than the former groups. The distinguishing stop-start style of Nirvana was adopted as the convention of the genre. Grunge also became synonymous with the music of indistinct and distorted guitars. When Nirvana got involved with mainstream music, most of the punk and independent connections of grunge were lost. It developed into the most popular hard rock style during the 1990s.
