Seattle Elections


A number of elections are held at regular intervals in Seattle. While a few of these Seattle elections are Federal elections, others are State elections and local elections. The Federal elections include the elections to vote for the US President and US Vice-President. These elections are held after a gap of four years. The Federal Elections are also held to elect the US House of Representatives. These elections are organized in even numbered years after every 2 years.

The State Elections of Seattle are generally held in the odd numbered years. The Governors for the state of Washington are elected in these elections. The Mayor of Seattle is elected after every four years in the local elections of Seattle by the registered voters of the city.
The functioning of Seattle elections is supervised by an independent committee known as Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission. Seven citizen volunteers comprise this independent committee. Three volunteers/Commissioners are appointed each by the City Council and the Mayor of Seattle. The last of the seven Commissioners is selected by these 6 elected Commissioners. Six more people are employed by this Commission to guide the Seattle citizens about the balloting pattern, election codes. In case of any complaint from any citizen or candidate regarding elections in Seattle, these employees investigate those complaints. The application of Seattle ethics, election pamphlet, Whistleblower Protection Codes is issued by the Commission.
