Chinatown – International District Summer Festival


The Chinatown – International District Summer Festival is one of the premier interests of the tourist traveling to Seattle in summer time. The Chinatown-International District Business Improvement Area or CIDBIA in collaboration with Rain City Events and T.D. Wang Advertising Group presents this event. The festival is held annually in the second weekend of the month of July. This festival represents the pursuits of Chinatown-International District's business and property owners. The mission of this festival is to promote economic sector, business houses and encourages the cultural and social areas of the district. The festival was sponsored by Wells Fargo in 2004 and by McDonald's in the year 2007.

The major events of Chinatown – International District Summer Festival include popular drill teams, dragon dances, rhythmic taiko drumming and many more, which are performed on the Nielsen Dragon Stage. The Karaoke Idol contest provides a great opportunity for the upcoming music talents. Several booths and stalls are set up featuring arts and crafts of the natives. Some stalls also represent the local business and community organizations. This two-day event celebrates the largest Pan-Asian street festival in the entire belt of Pacific Northwest. The best pieces of arts,
activities and food preparations from the Seafair region counts its popularity. The entertainment schedule alters every year.

International District festival exclusively celebrates the Asian culture in Seattle. Thousands of visitors gather to enjoy the graceful Asian dances, instrumental performances and martial arts. The children's area delight the kids with the puppetry shows, magic shows and story telling. The creative minds can spend their time visiting the Cultural Corner, which is a cluster of booths featuring craft demonstrations like basket weaving, Hawaiian lei making, calligraphy and traditional tea ceremony. The venue for Chinatown – International District Summer Festival is at Hing Hay Park in Maynard Avenue South.

The 2006 International District Summer Festival holds its significance for the stall of Accessible Voting Unit or AVU presented by the Organization of Chinese Americans and King County Voter Services. The demonstrations were given both in English and Chinese. Thousands of visitors came here to know about the new procedure of voting.
