Seattle Architecture


Seattle architecture have overwhelmed the spectators over the years. Mark of excellences like Experience Music Project by Frank Gehry, Seattle Public Library by Rem Koolhaas and Freeway Park by Lawrence Halprin have created a benchmark in the architectural history of the North West. The architecture of Seattle has been influenced by tradition, technological availability, raw materials, climatic conditions, nation's economy and diversified aesthetic preferences.

The style of architecture in Seattle exhibits all possible patterns for the past decades. Starting from the A-Frame cabin to the Yurt shaped houses, boasts the conventional form of Seattle architecture. Eventually Seattle residential architecture was dominated by the box style. The houses in Capitol Hill, and Phinney Ridge specially featured these types of houses. Another popular architectural style in Seattle was the Craftsman Bungalow. The origin of this architecture is from the Victorian era. The outer sketch was of simple, geometric lines with deep overhanging roofs and massive front constructions. Googie Architecture in Seattle was popular for its bold angles,
sweeping projected roofs and abstract design. These buildings instantly grabbed the attention of the spectators for its unusual yet interesting shapes. This is one of the patterns, which is still being followed by many northwestern architects. The present day Seattle features more and more Googie houses. Space Needle is one brilliant instance of this kind of architecture.

The architectural marvels of Seattle have become the tourists hot spots of the present times. Experience Music Project, Space Needle, Seattle Public Library, Museum of Glass, Intiman Theatre, Seattle City Hall, Smith Tower, Safeco Field, Chapel of St. Ignatius and St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral are only few of the numerous architectural buildings of Seattle. Huge constructions with glass or brass exteriors, see-through elevators and observation decks, placed at high altitudes note their creative significance. Most of these buildings are considered as ideal references of outstanding architectural planning. Both the exterior and interior planning of these buildings have featured abundance of space, ventilation, scientific balance and easy access from any corner of the building.

Castanes Architects have served Seattle more than twenty years. They are known for adapting different styles in their construction. The Neighborhood Company, Arcade Architecture and Design, Space.City and the Neighborhood Company are some of the well known group architects of Seattle. Seattle architecture have been a notable feature in the culture of United States for past decades.
