Savannah is a city in the U.S state of Georgia. Founded in 1733 as a Crown colony, Savannah is the oldest city in the state. The city derived its name from a Muskoghean Indian word, which means "Shawnee", the native name of the Shawnees. Savannah was the second-largest city in Georgia before 1970. It was the first colonial and state capital of Georgia. In 1864, the Northern troops captured the city. Later, the city grew as a tourist destination.



Area & Location: Lies in the county seat of Chatham County in Georgia, Savannah is located at Latitude 32°03'03" North, Longitude 81°06'14" West. Situated along the U.S. Intracoastal Waterway, the city covers a total area of 202.3 sq. km with 193.6 sq. km of land and 8.7 sq. km of water. It has a population of 129,800, making the city the fourth largest in the state.

Cobblestone streets, impeccably kept gardens like Bamboo Farm and Coastal Gardens and tree shaded avenues give a nice break to the people especially in the evenings. The city also holds more than 200 festivals each year which draws in plenty of tourists.
