San Jose City College , which began in 1921, is known as one of the most famous community colleges delivering education to the San Jose and Milpitas residents. The San Jose City College initially operated in the downtown area of San Jose, but after the San Jose Unified School was given charge of the College it was shifted to Moorpark Avenue. With the opening of the independent San Jose Junior College District, the name of the college was changed to San Jose City College in 1958.

The San Jose City College boasts of one of the finest libraries in the district. The Library formerly dedicated as the Cesar E. Chavez Library is fully equipped with the wireless Internet Access, Data Ports, Electronic Research Laboratory, 63,000 books and 200 periodicals.
The College warmly welcomes all the international students and the Counseling Centre is known to provide the correct guidance to all the students. The students are amply helped by the financial aid system which offers assistance in the form of Federal, state and college grants. Apart from the federal grants, the San Jose Scholarship Program is known to provide some 50 scholarships which are given to the students taking many things into consideration including leadership quality, and performance in the co-curriculum activities apart from academic brilliance.
Some of the most well-known scholarships are San Jose Evergreen College Foundation Community Scholarships , San Jose City College Memorial and Local Community Scholarships. All the students are encouraged to perform in activities other than the academic curriculum. The Baseball and the Volleyball Team are quite well-known for their excellent performances in the district. The place is not all about somber education, but it includes various events like Theatrical Productions, Stand-up Comedy Shows, Street Rod and Classic Car Shows, Lego building contest and above all the Athletic Competitions.
