South San Francisco is one of the more developing cities in the US, however, this development is taking place at a very quick pace. The city has suddenly become a favored destination for commerce and with each passing day business seems to be flourishing here. Located very near downtown San Francisco the city is another spot on the San Francisco Peninsula in the San Francisco Bay Area. Lying to the north of San Francisco International Airport, it occupies a small valley between, San Bruno Mountain and Coast Range.
Like the neighboring city of San Francisco it does not possess the significance of being a real tourist destination, however, the city will not disappoint any enthusiastic person. The Sign Hill , which is an important landmark of the city, gives ample proof to the newcomer about the true status of the city.
It is actually “SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO THE INDUSTRIAL CITY” as is engraved in concrete along the sides of the hill. On the top of this hill lies another attraction, the electric “Christmas Tree”, which remains lit up for the entire Christmas season.

There are several parks too in the city largest of whom are “Orange Memorial Park” enclosing a vast area comprising of a soccer field, softball field, picnic grounds, play areas and an indoor swimming pool.
The South San Francisco Library established since 1917 has served the city's population efficiently. Another attraction is Oyster Point , a dock along the shore of San Francisco Bay.
Originally an agricultural city, today the city's area lies covered by numerous housings and retail chains. With time the city has also grown to become a very important bio-technology center and is home to some of the largest bio-tech industries in the world. One of America's largest candy companies See's Candies is headquartered in South San Francisco city.

The city of South San Francisco has two important High Schools, El Camino High School and South San Francisco High School and also has three Middle Schools. Widely perceived to be a largely middle and working class city, South San Francisco is, slowly breaking that idea and becoming a major center for commerce with bio-tech industries leading the way.
