The city of San Francisco is served by the San Francisco International Airport, one of the busiest airports in the USA and the 23 rd most busiest airport in the world. Ever since the dot com boom in the the San Francisco Bay area the airport has grown to serving numerous airlines, and their flight schedules, from all parts of the world. The airport is efficient in handling both domestic and international flights in addition to serving as a important transit to the countries of Canada and Mexico. Flights that touch down at this airport serve the areas around the Pacific rim, Europe and Latin America. The San Francisco International Airport serves the main city of San Francisco, Silicon Valley and Bay Area. The airport has four terminals with a widely appreciated international terminal which is a major gateway to Australia, Asia and Europe.
After the airport's inaugural Pan American World Airways was the first airlines to base its operation from here. Its “China Clipper” flying boat service over the Pacific Ocean first made use of the airport's terminal. After World War II United Airlines made San Francisco International Airport its headquarters.
Some major airlines around the world had however stopped their services to this airport complaining about expensive service charges and flight delays. But of late many airlines like Quantas, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines and Aer Lingus have again promised of resuming their operations to this airport.
