SAN ANTONIO TRADITIONS

Important Festivals: The Fiesta is a widely celebrated festival of San Antonio. This festival is held every year to commemorate Mexico’s independence from Spain. It is held in the month of September every year. This 10-day event is the city’s largest festival and attracts more than 3 million visitors each year. Scores of events are held everyday, which include carnivals, street parties, parades, art exhibits, sports, debutante balls, and ethnic feasts. Some events, which you cannot afford to miss are the River Parade, the Battle of Flowers Parade, and the Flambeau Parade. There are a lot of colorful and vibrant floats and marching bands in these parades.

Customs and Traditions: San Antonio celebrates Cinco de Mayo (the 5th of May) in a big way. This is the day when the French Army was defeated by the Mexican Army at the Battle of Puebla in the year 1862. Though Mexico does not recognize Cinco de Mayo as a national holiday, but San Antonio, Texas does celebrate this day as a holiday.
