San Antonio is best known as the home of the Alamo and the Texas Revolution . With an area of 1067 sq.km and a population of 1,256, 509 according to the 2005 census, San Antonio TX is the seventh largest city in the United States and the ninth most populous.

Early History about San Antonio TX

The area now known as San Antonio was earlier known as Yanaguana or 'Refreshing Waters' by the Native Americans. In 1961, a Spanish expedition arrived at the river named it named after the Portuguese Saint Anthony of Padua. The city of San Antonio was actually established in 1761 by Father Antonio Olivares, who set up the Mission San Antonio de Valero. The city soon became a flourishing Spanish settlement. In 1821, since Mexico's independence, San Antonio and Texas as a whole became part of Mexico. In 1836, after the historic battle of Alamo fought between the Texian Revolutionaries and the Republic of Mexico, the Republic of Texas was announced.

According to the census in 2005, San Antonio TX had 405,474 households. The average population density was calculated to be 1062.7 people/sq.km. 64% of the population is White, 6.1% is African American, 0.7% is Native American. 61.2% of the population is of Hispanic origin. The population is composed of 48% males and 52% females. The average household income is US$ 36,214. 17.3% of the population is below the poverty line.

San Antonio has a relatively mild climate. The summers are warm, with July to August being the hottest period with temperature averages of 35oC.

Winters are pleasant, January is the coolest month. There is a fair amount of rainfall in May, June and October.
