Sacramento City College is part of the Los Rios Community College District. The seventh oldest public community college in California and the oldest institution of higher learning in Sacramento, Sacramento City College provides educational opportunities for nearly 22,000 students.

 

Sixty acres on Freeport Boulevard opposite William Land Park, the campus environment of Sacramento City College is very congenial to learning. With its sprawling groves of redwood and pine trees, ivy-covered walkways, and mix of classic and modern architecture, Sacramento City College has the look and feel of a traditional university. The college was founded in 1916 as a Department of Sacramento High School with the mission of providing knowledge and training in various fields of study. Sacramento City College aims at knowledge transfer, career advancement, basic skills development, and personal enrichment of its students. With nearly a century worth of experience in the academic world, Sacramento City College has contributed generously towards the intellectual, cultural, and economic vitality of the society.

Distance Education offers tutorials outside of classroom, usually from home or a conveniently located site that is outside the college campus. Sacramento City College's Distance Education is very popular among working people who want to earn university degree while they are working.

With its aim to spread education to all the corners of the state of California, Sacramento City College has started the Outreach Programs . This program offers many of its courses to outreach locations. The subject and matter taught in the outreach locations are the same as those taught at the main campus. West Sacramento has one such outreach location.
