Sacramento, California





Sacramento is the capital of the US state of California. Founded in December 1848 by John Sutter, it is the seventh largest city in California. Known as the 'City of Trees', it adopted a city charter in 1849 and the state legislature approved it in 1850. The city is the second oldest incorporated city in California. In 1924, the city of North Sacramento was incorporated and it was merged into Sacramento in 1964. Sacramento is the seventh largest city in California and also the county seat of Sacramento County.

Area & Location: Located at the confluence of the Sacramento River and the American River, Sacramento lies between 38º 31' Latitude North and 121º 30' Longitude West. The city has an elevation of 25ft and covers a total area of 257.0 sq. km with 251.6 sq. km of it land and 5.4 sq. km of water. It is also home to 456,441 people with a density of 1,617 per sq. km.
