Sunoco Welcome America


Sunoco Welcome America is an annual event held in Philadelphia, marking the anniversary of America’s Independence on 4th July. This weeklong celebration ensures to bring new surprises every year. The parades, colorful firework, small ritualistic festivals, movie screenings in open air, demonstration of historic events, commemorations of legendary personalities, evening arts exhibitions, town fairs and many more events make the day a special one. Celebrating America’s birthday with gospels, Salsa and many other entertaining hours take the citizens of America down their memory lane. The shows of Sunoco Welcome America festival are broadcast across various channels of the nation. The celebrations start before few days of the Independence Day.

Highlights of Sunoco Welcome America

Love Park Lunchtime Concert Series – The visitors feast on some of the region’s best cuisines with background concerts by Rhythm and Blues Bands from June 28 up to July 3 between 12-2 p.m.

Opera on the Square - The historic Rittenhouse Square is the venue for the evening opera on June 28, from 6:30p.m to 8:30 p.m.

Philly at the Movies – The night features some of the best movies produced in the nation. The movies are screened in the open air and the spectators come with blankets and chairs to enjoy the lovely summertime movie hours just few days before the real celebration. The screening is held on June 28, at 9:00 p.m.

Penn’s Landing Concert and Fireworks – This show usually takes place at the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing. After a live concert, the brilliant fireworks brighten up the night sky over the Delaware River. This event announces the approaching Sunoco Welcome America event in Philadelphia on June 30, from 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Fair on the Square - Rittenhouse Square features an
old-fashioned fair offering regional produces of Philadelphia. The afternoon is enriched by musical shows, arts and crafts exhibitions, food and carnival celebrations like sack races, pie-eating contests and tug-of-war. This event is held on July 1 from 3 pm to 8 pm

Arts on the Avenue – Held on July 2 from 6pm to 10 pm. this evening is enjoyed witnessing live alfresco performances at Philadelphia’s vibrant Avenue of the Arts, which is an area extending from City Hall to Spruce Street. Musical shows of smooth jazz and regional dance performances entertain the people gathered at the avenue.

July Fourth Party - This Philadelphia customary event starts with a parade then some festivals, concerts and an awesome display of fireworks over the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Let Freedom Ring – This is a silent event, when the Liberty Bell “rings” loud once a year during this special ceremony. Here one of the singers from the Declaration of Independence ring the Bell and remind the citizens of its freedom message on July 4 at 12:30 p.m.

Welcome America Dreamland Carnival – It is a daylong festival held at Memorial Hall in Fairmount Park. The visitors enjoy excellent food and entertainment commemorating the past, present and future of America with merry making activities from June 28 till July 4, starting from noon to 11 p.m.

A Taste of Philadelphia – This is one of the prime attractions of this festival, when the visitors tantalize their taste buds while savoring the menus of Philadelphia’s finest restaurants on 4th of July.

Sunoco Welcome America is usually held at various locations, thus, there is no specific area entitled for this event. However, 6th Street and Market Street are usually the places where this event has occurred majority of times. The inaugural event starts at the Independence Hall.
