Philadelphia Pride Parade and Festival

Philadelphia Pride Parade and Festival is held in the month of June every year during the International Gay Pride Month. The festival is organized by Philly Pride Presents, Inc. (PPP), a group of volunteer coordinators working for the rights of bisexual, transgender, lesbian and gay.

The purpose of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) Pride Parade and Festival of Philadelphia is the promotion of LGBT rights the visibility and awareness created by the parades and festivals. The parade also helps the LGBT community in the Delaware Valley in the fields of education, growth and self-realization.

In the later half of the 1980s, the first official Pride Parade was organized with no prior preparation.
It coincided with the rally that was planned by the Lesbian and Gay Task Force at Love Park. The parade was very successful and the members of LGBT community started an organization and called it Lesbian & Gay Pride of the Delaware Valley, Inc. This community organized a parade and festival at Penn's Landing every year to carry on outreach and visibility of the community. The organization gradually evolved to form what is presently known as Philly Pride Presents. And it has become the largest celebration of LGBT community in the region.

Each year the LGBT Pride Parade and Festival attracts more than 25,000 people. The Philadelphia Pride Parade and Festival is celebrated to unite the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community and celebrate the festival as a whole.
