The Community College of Philadelphia was established in the year 1964, and ever since it has grown to become, the largest institution for providing higher education in Philadelphia. Ever since the college began imparting educational courses since 1965 about 500,000 students have benefited from them. The college is noted around the US for imparting Associates Degrees , certificates, workshop assistance and an education which will prove beneficial lifelong.
The college offers over 70 degree and certificate degree programs in art, science, business and technology and as well as liberal arts. Classes are held during the day, in the evenings and even on Saturdays in the main college campus, at the other regional centers and in the various neighborhood sites across Philadelphia. The college also provides Distance Education for students who are unable to attend everyday classes. An added help for any student of the college is that the college also helps interested students in transferring to 4-year institutions with their special Dual Admission and Transfer Programs. The college is also reputed for helping students with tutorials, counseling and adult-educational programs.
The college also offers its students amenities like fitness centers, full-size basketball courts, cardiovascular and aerobic facilities and raquetball courts. Over 40 student clubs within campus enclosure provide the students with new learning opportunities, entertainment facilities and chance to mingle with the vast student community of the college. The college prides itself on its multi-cultural student community spanning almost 65 countries and students comprise of various age-groups. The popularity of the college around the world brings students from all parts of the world who come here with diverse educational objectives.

Almost 90% of the students settle down in Philadelphia after completing their course from Community College of Philadelphia.
