Age Structure: A 25.3 percent of the population of Philadelphia is under the age of 18. An 11.1 percent are between the 18 to 24 years age group. A 29.3 percent are between 25 to 44 years age group. Another 20.3 percent are between the 45 to 64 years of age. The 65 years or above age group accounts for 14.1 percent of the population.
Racial Makeup: African-Americans account for 42.46 percent of the population. Asians make up another 4.25 percent of the population. Native North Americans account for 0.22 percent of the population. An 8.45 percent of the people are Hispanics, while Whites account for 42.57 percent of the population.
Climate: The climate of Philadelphia can be classified as temperate. The summers are hot and humid. Autumn and spring are mild and pleasant. Winters are cold, but seldom experience sub-zero temperatures. Snowfall can be varied. Sometimes winters experience a smattering of snow and sometimes there are heavy snowstorms. The best time to visit Philadelphia would be all year round, but, the time around the 4 th of July is particularly festive. There are many festivals related to America's independence held during that time, due to the historical importance of Philadelphia in American's freedom movement.

Economy: Philadelphia's economy is one of the most diverse in the United States. The core area of its economy are manufacturing, commercial, technological activities and tourism. The banking and insurance industries are also an important part of its economy.
Government Type: Since 1952, the city and county have had a common government. The Mayor is the chief executive officer of the city. The Mayor is responsible for all executive and administrative works of the city. The legislative branch of the city is the Philadelphia City Council, which consists of 17 members. Ten of these are council members from Philadelphia's council districts. Seven members are elected “at large” to represent the entire city.
