New York City Government

The New York City government performs duties for the central government of the United States in terms of development that occurs within the city. The city has a centralized government which is responsible for the development of the city in various sectors including libraries, public education, sanitation, public safety, water supply, correctional institutions, and other public welfare services.

New York City has earned the nickname-the business capital of the United States of America. However, it is the New York City government that stands responsible for all the development of the city of New York.

The government of New York City comes to power after winning the election and is arranged under the City Charter. The government works on the mayor council system. The mayor is at the helm of most of the affairs. However, there are also as many as 51 Council members, elected from the same number of districts.

New York City is also the home to 122 consulate generals, consulates and honorary consulate offices-making it the largest international consular corps of the world. There are also a large number of New York City government offices, New York City government agencies and others, which help to make the democratic government of New York City one of the most competent ruling bodies in the United States of America.
