Nashville is the capital of the U.S. state of Tennessee. The city is the largest and fastest-growing metropolitan area in the state. Founded by James Robertson and a party of Wataugans in 1779, the city was originally named Fort Nashborough. Incorporated as a city in 1806, Nashville is the county seat of Davidson County. The city was chosen as the permanent capital of Tennessee in 1843. Its accessibility to river port, railroad center developed it into a major capital city in U.S. It is also the second biggest music production center in U.S. Although the city faced severe damage during the Civil War, it quickly revived itself and became the first major city in the United States to form a metropolitan government. Nashville has a strong mayor form of government with a mayor, vice-mayor and 40-member Metropolitan Council.
Area & Location:Located on the Cumberland River in Davidson County in the north-central part of the state, Nashville has a total area of 1,362.6 sq. km out of which 1,300.8 sq. km is land and 61.8 sq. km is water.
