Taxis: It is not permitted in Memphis to hail a taxi on the street, you have to book them by phone. For the first mile, the taxi cabs charge $2.90. For subsequent miles, they charge $1.40 per mile, plus 50 cents for each additional passenger. The usual tip is 15 percent of the fare.
