The Madison Square Garden , a famous landmark of the New York City, is part of the popular Madison Square region of New York City. The Madison Square Garden is one of the most important characteristic features of this city. Madison Square Garden is distinguished by its beauty and popularity.

Madison Square which is located in the Flatiron district is one of the most important squares in New York City. The historical significance of this place makes it more popular. Madison Square is surrounded by several historic landmarks such as the Metlife Tower, Flatiron Building, New York Insurance Company Building, and Madison Square Park. Madison Square Garden is part of this prestigious area. The original Madison Square Garden was opened in 1879 in Madison Avenue. Then it was the boxing ground of boxing legends like Jack Dempsey. This was replaced in 1889 by the second Madison Square Garden which was designed by Stanford White. Madison Square Garden then housed a concert hall, a theatre auditorium and a roof-top garden. A distinguished feature of the Madison Square Garden then was a majestic tower at the top which was fashioned after the Giralda Tower situated in Sevilla. The nude statue of Goddess Diana at the top of the tower was a sculptural masterpiece.

The Madison Square Garden building was demolished in 1925 and the garden was moved to 8 th Avenue in New York. Currently the Madison Square Garden is situated near the Penn Station.

Madison Square Garden has been the venue of several thrilling matches of basketball, hockey and interesting rounds of boxing competitions. It has also been the venue of many musical concerts. Rolling Stone, George Harrison, Ravi Shankar, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr and Billy Preston, all have performed at the Madison Square Garden. Several fund raising programs have also been held at this famous ground.

Madison Square Garden hosted many award functions and has now become the regular venue for the Grammy Awards. Yeshiva University and New York Police Academy organize their annual graduation ceremony and convocation at the Madison Square Garden.
