Lewiston is in Androscoggin County and is the second largest city of Maine, USA. Lewiston is one of the two principal cities which is a part of Maine Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Lewiston was primarily an industrial center and is located in southwest Maine, at the falls of the Androscoggin River. Lewiston and Auburn are often thought of as a single entity and jointly referred to as Lewiston-Auburn. Lewiston was settled in the year 1770 and was officially incorporated in 1795. In May 2004, the City of Lewiston started an ambitious plan for urban renewal near its downtown area. According to this plan the entire city was to be renovated and old nineteenth-century blocks were to be demolished.
