Museums in Las Vegas

There's no dearth of museums in Las Vegas. This magnificient city has so much in store to offer that a vacation needs to be planned very meticulously to ensure that you don't miss out on anything. There are museums displaying various things - be it costumes, jewellery, pianos,cars, art pieces, ethnic dolls or exhibitions on biological sciences. Infact, it is rare to find so many museums in a single city and such vast variety at the same time. Museums in Las Vegas are a must visit for each and every tourist.


Liberace Museum

The charismatic American entertainer Liberace established this museum in April 15, 1979. Here his dazzling jewellery, rare antiques, wardrobe, pianos and car collection are on exhibition. It is a non-profit museum. In Building Two, rare Moser crystal from Czechoslovakia (from Liberace's collection) has been exhibited.

Las Vegas Natural History Museum

This Las Vegas museum is a private, non-profit institution dedicated to educating children and families in natural sciences. The museum features animated exhibits, live animals and rare animal mounts. Animated dinosaur exhibits, a 3000-gallon tank with live sharks, an African Room, A Young Scientists Center, an International Wildlife Room are some of the features of this Las Vegas museum.

Atomic Testing Museum

The Atomic museum Las Vegas was opened in March 2005. The museum is built over an area of 8,000 square feet in the Rogers Building on Flamingo Road. The history of nuclear testing at the Nevada Test Site (NTS) in 1950s is documented here. A common man gets to learn a lot about the world of science here. A movie is shown every fifteen minutes at the "Ground Zero Theater". There's a lot for the visitors to learn from the Entrance Gallery, the Atomic Age Gallery, and the Atmospheric Testing Gallery.

Guiness World of Records Museum and gift shop

This museum is located on the Las Vegas Strip. The museum is a tribute to record breakers. Here the Guinness Book of Records is brought to life. You get to see many interesting things such as the world's most expensive car, animal records for Noah's Ark and more. The museum has a lot to learn for the entire family. The museum is unique in its own way because of the life-size replicas and color videos.

Clark county Heritage Museum Here restored historic structures and ghost town are
exhibited. Replicas of Native American dwellings and historic homes from the early 20th century, vintage automobiles etc are also on exhibition here. There is a very interesting display of old photographs of the Las Vegas Strip showing the time when gambling was first introduced into the town. In short the entire Nevada-story over a span of 10,000 years can be seen here.

Guggenheim Hermitage Museum

The Guggenheim museum Las Vegas was opened in 2001 and was designed by winner of 2000 Pritzker Prize in architecture, Rem Koolhaas. It's an art museum where world's finest art pieces are exhibited. Collections are gathered from three of world's greatest museums - the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (New York), the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg (Russia), and the Kunsthistorisches Museum (Vienna).

Lost City Museum Of Archaelogy

Located 60 miles north of Las Vegas, this museum exhibits artifacts of the Anasazi culture that colonized the Moapa Valley from the 1st to the 12th Century A.D. This museum is in Overton built over the ruins of an Anasazi pueblo. Interestingly, the museum is made of sun-dried adobe brick. Anasazi was a thriving culture that disappeared between 1150 and 1250 A.D. The mystery of the culture's disappearance attracts a lot of people.

Nevada State Museum And Historical Society

The Museum, located in the historic Lorenzi Park is basically an educational institution whose purpose is to advance the understanding of the history of Nevada. Permanent exhibitions on biological sciences, regional history and earth sciences are very informative.

Walker African-American Museum

This Las Vegas museum displays around 10,000 items such as ethnic dolls, art, artifacts, figurines, posters, prints, books, magazines etc. The museum also publishes "Black Pioneers of Nevada" wherein the accomplishments of Pioneers of past and present are published.
