Lansing is the capital city of the U.S. state of Michigan. The city is generally divided into four sections Eastside, Westside, Northwestside and Southside. The Eastside is the most racially diverse side of Lansing, with majority of foreign-born citizens. The Westside is regarded as the city's most socio-economically diverse section. While the Northwestside is physically the smallest side of the city, the Southside is physically the largest and most populous side of the city. The Grand River, the largest river in Michigan flows through downtown Lansing. The city was the thickest and wildest woods in the region before its development. Lansing is administered under a Mayor-council government. The mayor has the authority to appoint department heads and draft and administer the city budget. It is the only U.S state capital, which is not a county seat.
Area & Location:Located in the south central part of the Lower Peninsula where the Grand River meets the Red Cedar River, Lansing covers a total area of 91.3 sq. km, out of which 90.8 sq. km is land and 0.5 sq. km is water. Although the city sits mostly in Ingham County, a small portion of it extends into Eaton County and a small portion containing Capital City Airport extends to Clinton County. Its elevation ranges between 830 to 890 feet above sea level. Around 119,128 people reside in Lacing.

Economy: Despite being a small city, Lansing is an important center for manufacture, education, culture and government institutions. With the completion of the railroads and a plank road, the city began to grow steadily and became an industrial powerhouse. It is also a home to many rapidly growing firms like General Motors, Siena Capital Management and Capital Bancorp. The major industries that add revenue to the city are government, education and automobile manufacturing. The launch of many technology companies is spearheading the economic development in the technology sector.

The State Capitol Building in the city is yet another attraction that draws public attention.
