Once notorious for harboring illegal Whaling Vessels, the present day Lahaina Harbor is a popular tourist destination. Visitors come to Lahaina Harbor to enjoy the spectacular views across the Pacific and to enjoy the various recreational activities on offer. Earlier known as the capital of Kamehameha's empire, Lahaina now caters to the whims of travelers looking for relaxation and fun. Lahaina Harbor now displays a dazzling array of sea worthy vessels – catamarans, sailboats, motorboats, elegant yachts and even a submarine. The area around Lahaina Harbor has some of the best seafood and island cuisine restaurants as well as some of the most luxurious accommodations in all of Hawaii.
Lahaina Harbor Lighthouse is a 26 feet high concrete tower built in 1905 by the US Coast guard to replace an older wooden structure. Earlier the Lighthouse lamp was lit by whale oil and maintained by a Hawaiian caretaker. The present structure is still used for Navigation purposes.
