Jefferson, the capital of the U.S. state of Missouri, is best described as the true essence and spirit of America. Deriving its name from one of America's greatest Presidents, Jefferson is a city rich in history and culture. Modern day Jefferson has retained much of its tradition.

Jefferson City is situated on the banks of the Missouri River in the Cole County. Jefferson's weather is characterized by warm summers and cold winters. Jefferson holds an important place in the history of America and it was an earlier frontier town from where the westward expansion of America took place. The city of Jefferson was originally inhabited by a handful of settlers.

There was not much scope of development for this place. Still it was made the capital of Missouri. It was only after the Civil War that progress of Jefferson began to place. It was mainly the German immigrants who transformed the town into a thriving capital city.

There are many historical sites in Jefferson and the locals are proud of their heritage. The Capitol Building in Jefferson is an imposing structure that is fashioned much after the Capitol Building of Washington DC. The Port House in Jefferson is another popular historical site. The Port House is a two-story house which was built between 1827 and 1842. The Jefferson Landing, Monaco House and the Lohman Building are some of the other landmarks in Jefferson.
