Idaho Falls is the county seat and the largest city of Bonneville County, Idaho, USA. Idaho Falls is the principal city of and is a part of the Idaho Metropolitan Statistical Area. Its sister city is the town of Tokai-Mura, Japan. It constantly competes with Potacello to become the third largest city in the state and they often interchange their rankings.
Idaho Falls was initially known as Taylor's Crossing, named after Matt Taylor, who built a toll bridge across the narrow gorge on the Snake River in the year 1865. In 1872, the town was renamed as Eagle Rock after a rock island became a nesting site for numerous eagles. Then in the year 1891, the town renamed itself as Idaho Falls after the rapids which existed below the bridge of Black Canyon.

Idaho Falls has a mixed population dominated by the English, followed by German, Irish, Mexican and Swedish. Apart from these, Hispanic and Latino people are also found in the region.
Idaho Falls enjoys a semi-arid alpine climate. Summers are long and mild while winters are long and cool. During summers, nights are refreshingly cool. The nearby mountains attract majority of the snowfall. The spring season is short and the fall is mild and beautiful.
Idaho Falls has many elementary and high schools. The area also has Idaho State University, Eastern Idaho technical College and University of Idaho.
The city is served by the Idaho Falls Regional Airport. Idaho Falls owes its existence mainly to the river and railroad. It was and still is a resting place meant for visitors on their way to other places.
