There is an access from the Highway which runs near the Airport terminal.The access road forms a one way traffic loop which surrounds the various Airport facilities, like the public vehicle parking and the Car Rental facilities. There is another Airport complex nearby, housing additional facilities. The area is used mainly by the local Car Rental agencies for returns, general vehicle maintenance, and storage purposes.

- The Hilo International Airport was earlier known as General Lyman Field. The Airport occupies an area of 1,391 acres and is located two miles to the east of Hilo's City Center. The airport has a primary runway measuring 9,800 feet long. The runway is utilized mainly for air carrier operations. The second Crosswind Runway measures 5,600 feet long and is used mostly for general aviation operations. The passenger terminal complex, which also includes passenger commuting facilities, is located to the south of the airport. The terminal is connected by an access roadway from the Kekuanaoa Avenue. General aviation facilities are placed along the side of the second crosswind runway, which is also served by the terminal access roadway. The Airport also offers convenient parking for transient military aircraft.
