Frederick City is located in Frederick County in the state of Maryland. With an area of 52.9 sq.km, Frederick MD is the second largest city in Maryland after Baltimore. Located just at just an hour's distance from Washington DC, Frederick MD is an important Civil War Heritage Site. Frederick MD also has a rich heritage of arts and culture which is strong even today.

Early History of Frederick MD

Frederick Town was established in 1745. It was named after Prince Frederick of Wales. The Pennsylvania Dutch were some of the earliest settlers in the area. Many Germans also migrated to the area while en route to the Shenandoah Valley and Piedmont. Frederick MD also had a sizable Jewish population since the mid 18th century. In 1905, the First Baptist Church was set up in the area. The Jewish community set up the Frederick Hebrew Congregation in 1858, which later came to be known as Beth Sholom.
