The Frederick Community College is one of the most important academic institutions of Frederick. The Frederick Community College has a lush 110-acre campus near the Catoctin Mountains. The campus is easily accessible from major cities like Baltimore and Washington DC. The Frederick Community College offers students a varied choice of academic courses and extracurricular activities.
The Frederick Community College was started in 1957 with just 77 students and classes were held in the local Frederick High School. The College gradually gained popularity and by 1963, the student strength was about 248. A building on North Market Street was then used for conducting classes till in 1971, the present campus in Opossumtown Pike was dedicated to the college. The college campus was officially dedicated in 1971. The current student strength is 14,000. 66% of whom are part-time students. The present facilities include 10 academic buildings, playing fields and a 14,000 sq.ft. state of the art conference center.

- Educational Credit Programs include Single Semester Courses as well as complete Academic Degree Curriculum Courses. Distance education programs can be easily accessed from home using the Internet or cable TV. The major advantage of such an academic program is that it can be accessed by students according to their own convenience and that there is a minimal requirement of attending structured classes.
- Noncredit Courses and Programs include continuing education and customized training. The noncredit distance education program includes courses in business, management, and technology. These programs are designed specifically to meet the training requirements at modern workplaces.
