Frederick is a city in the U.S state of Maryland. Founded in 1745, it became the county seat of Frederick County after three years. Jewish settlement was seen in the city in 1740s. Though it is not clear that from where the name 'Frederick' was chosen, it has been derived from the names of Frederick Calvert, 6th Baron Baltimore and Frederick Louis, Prince of Wales.



Area & Location: Lies in the western part of the State of Maryland, Frederick is located at 39°25'35" Latitude North and 77°25'13" Longitude West. The city covers a total area of 52.9 sq. km. It has a population of 57,009 with a density of 997.7per sq. km.

Transportation: Frederick Municipal Airport serves the city. Buses, cars, taxis are the other means of transportation in the city. A number of highways and expressways including Interstate 70, Interstate 270, and US Highway 40 pass through the city.

The gorgeous examples of 18th and 19th century architectures can also be found here. The city is also home to a number of outdoor activities and attractions such as Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo, 90 parks and three covered bridges. Many markets, antique shops and art galleries include the entertainment centers in the city.
