Fort Wayne is a city in the U.S state of Indiana. Founded in 1794, the town was renamed from Kekionga to Fort Miamis, Fort Miami, French Town, Kisakon, Miami Town, Omee Town, Post Miami and Twightwee Village. The city also has many nicknames such as "Summit City," "Gateway to the West." etc. Having many diverse denominations and wealth the city was also known as the "City of Churches." It was incorporated as the City of Fort Wayne on February 22, 1840. It is now the county seat of Allen County.



Area & Location: As a city in northeastern Indiana, Fort Wayne is located at 41°04'42? Latitude North and 85°07'36? Longitude West. The city occupies a total area of 204.92 sq. km with 204.48 sq. km of land and 0.4 sq. km of water. It also has an elevation of 247m. Around 248,341 people reside in the city and its metropolitan area is home to 502,141 people.

Transportation: Fort Wayne International Airport is the main airport that serves the city. Fort Wayne Public Transportation Corporation provides bus service between the cities. The light rail system, trolley buses are the other means of transport in the city. The city has a wide road network that include highways, freeways, Interstate 69, Interstate 469, U.S. Route 24, U.S. Route 27, U.S. Route 30 and U.S. Route 33.

The zoo features an Indonesian Rainforest, Australian Adventure area and also gives a chance to ride a jeep through this African animal zoo. The Fort Wayne Museum of Arts, which has a collection of 1,300 artifacts, is also amazing. Gardens at the Foellinger-Friemann Botanical Conservatory, the Sonoran Desert House, the Showcase House and the Tropical House are the other interesting sites in the city. The Lincoln Museum with a number of artifacts that dates back to the Lincoln's period is also a must visit place in the city.
