Fairbanks is a city in the US state of Alaska. It is a Home Rule City in Fairbanks North Star Borough. Founded as a gold rush town in 20th century, it was incorporated in November 1903 and was named after popular Indiana senator Charles W. Fairbanks. It is the commercial center for Interior Alaska and was also the construction hub for the Trans-Alaska Pipeline in 1975-1977. The city developed a lot to become the largest city in the Interior region of Alaska and second largest in the state.
Area & Location: Located in the heart of Alaska's Interior, on both shores of the Chena River, Fairbanks lies at 64.837780° Latitude North and 147.71639° Longitude West. The city occupies a total area of 84.6 sq. km with 82.5 sq. km of land and 2.1 sq. km of water. The city has a population of 30,224 with a density of 366.3 sq. km.
