TRADITIONS OF DETROIT

Important Festivals: The Comerica Michigan Tastefest is an annual festival held in Detroit. Displayed in this festival are a variety of sumptuous dishes by dozens of Detroit restaurants. These restaurants put on display a wide variety of American and ethnic dishes in this five-day arts and cultural fair. It is held in the week of 4th of July every year. Along with the food, you can enjoy the entertainment shows that are put up here for children and adults alike.

Customs and Traditions: In Detroit, the people call "soda" as "pop". Convenience stores and sometimes liquor stores are referred to as "party stores". As you travel around Detroit, you will see many restaurants named Coney or Coney Island, or you may see a dish named "Coney" on the menu. A Coney Island as a food item is a hot dog covered with chili, mustard, and onions. A restaurant, which serves these chili dogs, is also called Coney Island. In other parts of the country, these food items are usually called chili dogs.
