Situated in the Wayne County of Michigan, Detroit boasts of being the oldest city in Midwest USA. Detroit is famous for being the headquarters of three automobile giants, Ford, General Motors and Chrysler. The city of Detroit is a fascinating mix of the traditional and the modern ways of life.

The beautiful city of Detroit is located on the banks of the Detroit River that connects Lake Erie and Lake Saint Clair. Detroit experiences temperate climate. The summer here is warm and humid while the winters are very cold. Summer temperatures in Detroit hovers around 90 o F and Detroit winter temperature usually stays well below freezing point. Rainfall in Detroit is pretty uniform and falls almost every month. Precipitation in Detroit also takes the form of snowfall. Snow in Detroit usually falls between November and April.

Detroit was founded in 1701 by Frenchman Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac. Detroit was then established as a fur trading post. Many years later in 1903 Detroit was made into an automotive factory post by the legendary Henry Ford, founder of Ford Motors. Modern Detroit started growing from this period onwards.

Detroit attracted many new immigrants and trade with the east coast flourished.It was primarily in Detroit that the American automotive revolution took place with the flagship assembly line of Ford.

Detroit is one of the largest metropolises in the United States. The city of Detroit is home to about 951,270 people according to the 2000 census. Downtown Detroit has still retained the past glory of the city with its old art deco-style skyscrapers and other historic landmarks.
