Traditions of Dallas

Important Festivals: Every state or city has its own festivals, which are a reflection of the culture and traditions of the city, and Dallas is no exception. Some of the festivals, which Dallas celebrates annually, are Texas State Fair, Taste of Dallas, Deep Ellum Arts Festival, and SnowFest. The Texas State Fair is held annually in downtown Dallas in Fair Park. Among the many exhibits at the fair are cooking, arts and crafts, livestock, and auctions. This three-week show includes inter-college football games, concerts, and an automobile show. There are two landmarks that the fair is identified with. These are Big Tex and the Texas Star Ferris Wheel. The Texas Star Ferris Wheel is 212 feet tall and has the distinction of being the tallest Ferris wheel in North America.
Customs and Traditions: Texans go out of their way to find excuses to celebrate, have get-togethers, and cook outs. It’s a common sight to have entire blocks cordoned off from traffic in order to have a pub crawl, celebrate the 4th of July, or St. Patrick’s Day. If there are no festivals coming up, Dallas will often create an unofficial one. If they are going for a football match, they celebrate before going for the match and have a tail gate party. There are jazz festivals, outlaw parties, in addition to a party to celebrate sweet potatoes.
