Boston Phoenix


In 1966 Boston Phoenix was started in the form of a newsweekly having four-pages of news and articles on arts and entertainment. It is famous all over USA for its award-winning, insightful journalism and also for publishing detailed news on arts-and-entertainment.

The newspaper Boston Phoenix has been awarded with several awards for excellence in journalism, such as honors from the New England Press Association, the ASCAP-Deems Taylor Awards, the American Bar Association Gavel Awards and the Penny-Missouri Newspaper Awards. Phoenix classical music writer Lloyd Schwartz received Pulitzer Prize for criticism in 1994.

In 1988, the Boston Phoenix newspaper acquired the name NewPaper in Rhode Island. It was renamed in
1993, as the Providence Phoenix. The newspaper gradually expanded and extended its reach into Maine and Southern New Hampshire and started the publication of the Portland Phoenix in September of 1999.

The year 2005 was a significant year for the Phoenix as it undertook a major revamp by replacing broadsheet/Berliner format to tabloid format. It also launched a new logo to increase its influence on the younger readers. The Boston Phoenix features articles on news, music, arts, life, movies dining and video.

As per the press release of September 2006, total circulation of Boston Phoenix is 494,400. The newspaper has an online edition available on Internet. The online edition of Boston Phoenix features 90% of the newspaper's content including some extra content that is not published in the printed edition.
