Boston College


In the year 1863, Boston College was established by the Society of Jesus. On September 5, 1864, the college finally started operating with 3 teachers and 22 students. During the first seven decades, it was an exclusively liberal arts institution which concentrated on the education of religion. Greek and Latin classics, philosophy and English and modern languages were the other subjects, which were taught with perfection in this college.

Boston College was originally situated on Harrison Avenue in Boston's South End. In the 1940s, the size of the main campus was doubled by acquiring new properties. The Newton College of the Sacred Heart, which was 1.5 miles away was acquired by Boston College in 1974. Presently the campus of the college has 15 buildings on 40 acres of land.

At present, the college offers courses in numerous streams. The number of permanent faculties count to 660 at present. The various departments of
Boston College are Economics, Classical Studies, Chemistry, English, Biology, Geology and Geophysics, Communication, Music, Computer Science, German Studies, Theater, Slavic and Eastern Languages, Sociology, Fine Arts, Theology, Physics, Philosophy, History, Psychology, Mathematics, Political Science and Romance Languages and Literatures. The college offers Master’s as well as Bachelor's degrees. The alumni of Boston College comprises 143,000 graduate and undergraduates.

The college students take part in a number of sporting events. There are 27 teams sported by the Boston College students. All of them are competent enough to qualify for the NCAA Division I Level.

The college has both evening and day college sessions, which has been opened for both boys and girls. The campus of Boston College is self-sufficient with all kinds of facilities like well-equipped laboratories, libraries, theater, bookstore, dining hall, hostels and all.
