Boston is one of the most populous cities of the U.S. which experiences a continental climate very similar to that of New England. Boston experiences a continental climate which is often affected by the maritime influences.

The summer season in Boston is hot and humid. The hottest month is July with temperatures soaring up to 80°F (27.7°C) and then lowering down to 64°F (18.4°C). The condition during summers is generally humid. There can be a stark difference between night and day in temperatures during the summers because of sudden clouds or rain in the evening. The highest recorded temperature is 104°F (40°C) on July 4, 1911.

The winter season in Boston is very cold, windy and snowy. The coldest month is January with temperatures on an average of 23°F (-5.6°C). Winter temperatures can stay at this low temperature for a prolonged period of time. The lowest recorded temperature is 0°F (-18°C) which was on February 9, 1934.

The city of Boston has approximately 42 inches (108 cm) of precipitation in a year. The position of Boston near the North Atlantic also makes the city prone to Nor'easter weather systems which can produce snow and rainstorms. Occasionally it even snows during October or May.

Most of the precipitation occurs during the summer season which is a typical characteristic of continental climate. Even fog is quite common, particularly during the spring and early summer season.
