Boston is the capital of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, USA. It is the most populous and largest city of New England. It is the eleventh largest metropolitan area of Boston and lies in the area called Greater Boston. The residents of this city are known as Bostonians.

The city of Boston was established on September 17, 1630 by puritan colonists from England. These Puritans are different from he Pilgrims ho founded the Plymouth Colony few years earlier. Boston was the largest town of British North America until the mid-1700. During the 1770's, British attempts to exert more control over the thirteen colonies prompted the Bostonians to initiate the American Revolution. After this revolution, it became one of the world's wealthiest international trading port. In the beginning of the 21st century, the city became a place of intellectual, technological and political ideas.

Boston has a continental type of climate but it often enjoys maritime influences. The weather changes rapidly. The summers are hot and humid, while winters are cold and very windy with occasional snowstorms.
Boston has about 42 inches (108 cm) of precipitation every year. Fog is quite prevalent and rarely even hurricanes affect the area.

Boston has more than 100 colleges and universities in the metropolitan area itself. The Boston Public School system operates 145 schools.

Boston's economy is largely affected by the colleges and universities as students from all over the globe come to study here. Another source of income is the tourism industry as it is the tenth most popular tourist destination in USA.

Logan international Airport handles the scheduled passenger services for Boston. Boston has many winding and narrow alleys as the streets in the downtown Boston were not thoroughly planned. The city has a well developed maritime transportation facility and is also the east terminus of I-90.
