Boston Globe is the most widely circulated daily newspaper of Boston, Massachusetts and New England. It is also the leading media organization of Boston. The daily circulation of the Boston Globe is 386,415 according to the recent surveys.
The Boston Globe was founded in the year 1872 by six Boston based businessmen. The group was led by Eben Jordan and all of them jointly invested $150,000. The first issue was published on March 4, 1872 and the cost then was just four cents. It began its Sunday edition in 1877 as it was initially a morning daily edition. In 1878, the Boston Globe newspaper started its evening edition called The Boston Evening Globe, which was not published after 1979. Until 1973, The Boston Globe was managed by a private organization, but then it went under a public sector company named Affiliated Publications. In 1993, the affiliated Publications merged with The New York Times Company, publishers of The New York Times. The Boston Globe is now completely a subsidiary of this organization.
The Boston Globe faced charges of forging the truth and fabricating when columnist Patricia Smith was forced to resign in 1998.

Mike Barnicle was also accused of the same offence and forced to resign as well. In the spring of 2005, a story was retracted on the Boston Globe, by freelance journalist Barbara Stewart, which had actually never taken place.
On the other hand, the reporters of Boston Globe have won the Pulitzer Prize for their outstanding work in the uncovering of the Roman Catholic Church sex abuse scandal. Charlie Savage, another reporter of Boston Globe also won the Pulitzer Prize for his reports on President Bush in the year 2007. In 2001, Gail Caldwell won the same prize for distinguished criticism. In 2005, it was won by Gareth cook for explanatory reporting. Many other notable reporters of the Boston Globe have won this prize.
Globe Magazine is the weekly magazine which comes out on every Sunday with the Boston Globe newspaper. The magazine has been recently revamped and new sections of Q/A and Pierced have been added. Boston Globe has announced on 23 October, 2006, the publication of Design New England: The Magazine of Splendid Homes and Gardens, a glossy magazine, which would be published six times in a year.
