Downtown Boise is the energetic, wealthy and exciting urban center of the Treasure Valley. It acts as the government, business, cultural and entertainment center for southwest Idaho and eastern Oregon. Boise is the capital and the most heavily populated city of the State of Idaho, USA. Boise was established as a city in 1864, before that the first capital of Idaho was Lewiston, but Boise replaced it in 1865. This new city grew rapidly, as according to the 2000 census, Boise's population was 185,787, where as in the 2005 the greater Boise area had an estimated population of 793, 161. According to the United States Census Bureau, despite of Boise's small population, Boise covers a large area. Like most major metropolitan areas in USA, Boise is divided into several parts. These parts of Boise include the Bench, the North End, West Boise and Downtown among others.

Downtown Boise is Boise's cultural center. Downtown Boise is the residence of many small businesses and a few edifices. This area is quickly becoming the fashionable neighborhood of Boise proper. Here in Downtown Boise you can find a wide assortment of shopping and dining opportunities. In its 8th street which contains street side cafes and restaurants you can enjoy a slightly European feeling.

Downtown Boise's economy has been endangered by widespread development around the Boise Towne Square Mall and an increasing number of shopping centers which have arisen around new housing developments. Cultural events such as Alive-after-Five and First Thursday have been fashioned in Downtown Boise to overcome this trend.

Alive-after-Five is Boise's favorite Summer Concert Series , which continues from June to September, on every Wednesday. This takes place in the Grove Plaza downtown Boise. Here you can listen to live music and enjoy cool beverages and delicious food each week. This is a great event where you can participate with your whole family. The event starts at 5pm and lasts until 8pm.

First Thursday event takes place on the first Thursday of each month, throughout downtown Boise. The event takes place from 5:00-9:00 pm which provides downtown visitors the chance to walk through the unique shops and galleries in downtown.
